program overview
Alternative Education and Work Center)- is a high school dropout recovery program admininstered by the Division of Adult and Career Education (DACE) of LAUSD. AEWC student are 16-18 year old teens who have dropped out of school. AEWC provides these studetns eith educational opportunities leading to a high school diploma or equivalency and career technical education training program.

3. Can you be responsible for attending meetings with your teacher and turning your work in on time?
4. Can you motivate yourself to read and complete your work even when other things compete for your attention?

If you answered YES to all five questions, then AEWC might be right for you.
how does it works?
AEWC is an independent study program that provides dropouts with an alternative way to earn a high school diploma. Students are assigned courses and coursework based on transcript evaluation and demonstrated competencies. Students are responsible for meeting with teachers and completing required course work. Students complete majority of their coursework independently and have access to the AEWC study centers when they need assistance. Work is sumitted as scheduled by the teacher. Students must make adequate academic progress to remain in the program.
How do I enroll?
Enrollment in the AEWC program is completed at individual study centers. Students interested in the program should contact the contact the counseling office for details about testing and orientation meetings. Enrollment is taken throughout the year, however, students are enrolled based on available space. The program operates on a year round schedule.

AEWC study centers operate on a client-centered basis with individdualized edcucational and career technical training plans.
The AEWC program offer competency and standards based curriculum and courses that meet the A-G requirements.
The mode of instruction in AEWC is independent study. Independent study is a voulentary alternative to regular classroom instruction and is consistent with the school district's curriculum and course of study.
Independent study provides flexible scheduling which allows students to acquire employability skills, or to seek or maintain employment, or care for children or family members while earning a high school diploma or its equivalent.
Teachers are responsible for assuring that competencies in the independent study course work are mastered and that the highest level of educational quality is maintained.
AEWC students must meet all district and state requirements for graduation including the STAR test (grandes 9-11) and the California High School Exit Exam.
AEWC students successfully and transition to college, the military and employment.
